“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” — Matthew 6:34
One of the most freeing truths we can learn in the Christian life is this: God gives us strength for today—not for everything all at once.
And yet, how often do we live like we’re supposed to have it all figured out?
We look ahead… we start calculating… we play out scenarios that haven’t even happened yet.
What if this gets harder?
What if I don’t have what it takes?
What if this doesn’t work out?
Let me ask you—where has your mind been living lately…today, or in a future that hasn’t arrived yet?
Because when our thoughts live in tomorrow, our hearts start carrying burdens God hasn’t given grace for yet. In Matthew 6, Jesus isn’t just telling us to “stop worrying.” He’s teaching us how God cares for His people. Right before this, He points to the birds and the lilies—completely dependent yet completely provided for (Matthew 6:26–30).
And if that’s true, we must ask ourselves whether we really believe His care is just as intentional for us—or whether somewhere along the way, we’ve started believing we must secure the future ourselves.
Scripture shows us a clear pattern of how God works:
- Israel received manna daily, not stored up for the future (Exodus 16:4).
- His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22–23).
- We are taught to ask for our daily bread (Matthew 6:11).
God’s provision is intentionally daily—not because He is limited, but because He is relational. He is drawing us into a life of ongoing dependence. When we try to carry the weight of tomorrow today, we’re stepping outside of that design. No wonder it feels heavy.
This is a good place to stop for a minute and think about your own “tomorrow.” Where does your mind keep going when it runs ahead of today?
Maybe it’s a situation you can’t control. An outcome you can’t guarantee. A responsibility that hasn’t even arrived yet. Maybe you’ve been trying to figure out how you’ll handle something that God hasn’t asked you to handle today.
Here’s the truth we often forget: You don’t need tomorrow’s strength today…because God hasn’t given tomorrow’s grace yet.
That’s not a lack on His part—it’s His design. This doesn’t mean we don’t plan or think ahead. Scripture calls us to wisdom. But there is a difference between planning with faith and worrying with fear.
Worry says, “I need to figure this out now.”
Faith says, “God will meet me there when I get there.”
So, let’s bring it back to today-where God is actually working. What has He placed in front of you right now?
Not the whole picture… not every outcome… just the next step. Instead of asking, “How am I going to handle everything that might happen?” we simply ask, “What would it look like to be faithful with what God has given me today?”
Because that’s where His grace is. That’s where His strength is. That’s where His peace is found. And when we stay there—something shifts. The pressure eases. The noise quiets.
And instead of striving to control the future, we begin to walk with God in the present.

God has given you grace for today—walk in it and trust Him with tomorrow.
Lord, we confess how easily our minds run ahead of where You’ve placed us. We pick up worries about tomorrow and try to carry things You haven’t asked us to hold. Help us to trust You for today. Remind us that Your grace meets us here, in this moment, and that You will be faithful when tomorrow comes. Teach us to walk in obedience with what You’ve placed in front of us, and to leave the rest in Your hands. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

This is such a powerful truth on which to ponder. Thank you.
